Elizabeth "Lizzy" Scott is a teacher at the Barclay School in Manhattan - correction - she was a teacher at the Barclay School in Manhattan. Everything begins to go down hill when an angry parent, Grant Markham, lies to the school board and gets Elizabeth suspended. With nothing left to do, she goes to her happy place- the local dog show. With her sister, Jenna, and her Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Bliss, in tow, Lizzy hopes to make the best out of her birthday. There, she meets the stuck up and cold judge, Mr. Donovan Darcy. Yes, an actual Mr. Darcy from England. After losing her cool in front of one of the biggest judges in England, Lizzy is resigned she will never be happy again. That is, until she meets the kind Sue Barrow and her husband Alan. After learning about her troubles, Sue offers Elizabeth the job of a lifetime, go to England and help get Sue's terriers show ready. Elizabeth is sold, she has time off while Grant Markham's claims are being investigated, and who wouldn't want a free trip to England? As soon as she arrives, Lizzy feels at home in the picturesque, rich neighborhood, until she realizes that the elusive Mr. Darcy happens to be the Barrow's next-door neighbor. Between the late night dog walks and the ancient castles, Elizabeth begins to feel like she doesn't know Mr. Darcy as well as she thinks she does. I really love this book. This is actually the second time I've read it because it's a fun and easy story. The characters are very likable and with ex-girlfriends, angry parents and stuck up aunts, there's just the right amount of drama. I would definitely recommend. This is a fun and modern twist on Jane Austen's beloved novel. Plus who doesn't like a story involving dogs! P.S. check out the film version and it's sequel on the Hallmark channel (obviously, no sex included in this version)
