"Fallen" by Lauren Kate is a story about a girl named Luce who, due to some unusual and sad circumstances ends up at Sword and Cross reform school. There, she becomes friends with Penn, Arriane and seems to enjoy flirting with Cam. Her feelings for the mysterious Daniel Grigori, however, are beyond anything she's ever felt before. She knows Daniel, really knows him., she's sure they've met before. But when her visions of shadows and strange dreams become worse Luce knows that something isn't right. Stuck between wanting answers to her feelings for Daniel, and enjoying the company of Cam, Luce is about to make a choice of biblical proportions. I really enjoyed this novel. I had originally seen the film first and was interested in the novel. Fair warning: as most book adaptions go, the film is nothing like the book. While I did enjoy the film, the story goes in a completely different track than the novel. This is definitely an interesting story, dealing with angels and demons, as well as love and loss. While sometimes the reader can feel frustrated that Luce is not getting the answers she needs, all will be revealed in time. P.S. check out the film version on Hulu and Amazon Prime!
Cliffhanger: The small events in this book conclude, but the novel is left open for the overall main story in the series to continue.
Overall: 4.5/5
