I really enjoyed this novel! It tells the story of a Pagan, a high school senior that can see "souls", people who have died and are in limbo and unable to speak. Pagan usually ignores them, and tries to have a normal life, until one day one of these souls speaks to her. Confused and annoyed, she begins to learn more about her role in the world and who this handsome soul is to her. As she begins to grapple with her feelings not only to this soul, but to her boyfriend and friends, secrets start to unravel and it's up to Pagan to figure out what these events all mean. Glines has a interesting writing style, the reader slowly learns the answers to who the handsome soul is and how he fits in Pagan's life and with Pagan. There are some heated moments, but this book definitely focuses on Pagan grappling with her feelings and attempting to get answers to questions she hasn't even begun to ask yet. The ending is also satisfying; it concludes the events that have been building in the novel, but leaves the reader with a cliffhanger that causes you to want to read the next book in the series to find some answers. This is an easy read as well, so if you're ever feeling bored or want to feel accomplished by reading a book so quickly, I'd reach for this one.
Cliffhanger: Sort of- concussion to this book, but open ended for another in the series.
Overall: 4.5/5
